Local Foundation: Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation

Project Purpose

For LNPK 156 to build climate resilience and address health disparities in a low-income neighborhood through creative placemaking and collaborative partnership development.

Key Lessons Learned

Do the work to make sure all partners are on the same page regarding what type of partnership is being formed. This can reduce potential conflict and/or loss of time by ensuring that the form and function are agreed upon (network, community of practice, workgroup). Once the structure is understood, the structure can quickly define roles and responsibilities.

Go with your strengths. Partners bring strengths that don’t have to be replicated by the other agencies IF strong trusting relationships are formed.

Sometimes City processes and restrictions can make it difficult to flexibly or rapidly respond to opportunities, find a strong community partner that can bring nimbleness and capacity.
