Multnomah County Community Climate Justice Vision

Year Complete: 2023
Local Government: Multnomah County, OR
Local Foundation: Meyer Memorial Trust

Project Purpose

To develop a frontline community centered vision of climate justice that will serve as the foundation for a Multnomah County government and community climate justice plan.

Key Lessons Learned

Clearly define roles and responsibilities with all project partners.

Recognize the differing yet complementary roles that local government and community play in advancing climate justice.

This work takes time and is rooted in relationships and trust. It involves a clear and honest assessment of the local landscape for government and community-based organizations. It requires buy-in and commitment to the work and it is critical to realize that this is not a one size fits all approach and that different jurisdictions/communities will be at different stages in this process.

Recognize where you are and design the process accordingly based on that reality, rather than attempting to jump ahead.
