Orchard Knob Collaborative

Year Complete: 2022
Local Government: City of Chattanooga
Local Foundation: Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga

Project Purpose

This project transformed the historically underserved Orchard Knob Neighborhood through structural, hardscape, and softscape improvements, reducing inland flooding and the urban heat island effect.

Key Lessons Learned

Collaborative work is valuable and challenging. Getting partners together on items like budgets, grant reports, shared media and socials can be difficult. Focusing on the best outcomes for the neighborhood allows the partners to deal effectively.

The voice of the community should be the determining factor of the work that has to be done. Collaborative partners bring different elements and benefits to the partnership and allow for differences in approach.
